Overview
Lockin is a global smart lock brand, providing innovative home security solutions for modern households. The brand had already built a strong foundation through a robust product lineup, a polished website, and significant investment in Search Engine Optimization (SEO)/Google Ads to drive overseas e-commerce growth.
But when consumers asked AI platforms questions such as “Which smart lock is best for apartments”, “is fingerprint unlocking safe”, or “which smart lock works for rentals”, on AI-based platforms like Gemini, ChatGPT, or Perplexity, Lockin’s name was rarely mentioned in the answers. As discovery shifted beyond traditional search results and toward AI answers, this blind spot became impossible to ignore.
That’s when Lockin partnered with Frevana.
The Story
Lockin had done many things right—their products were reliable, well-designed, and competitively priced, their website ranked for several keywords, and paid ads continued to bring in traffic. Yet despite these efforts, Lockin had very low visibility in AI search results, where the bulk of users are now discovering and evaluating products.
The brand’s AI visibility score sat at 4.92%, meaning Lockin almost never appeared in the top AI-generated answers across relevant queries.
Frevana’s analysis revealed several core issues. Lockin’s content and website were not designed for AI answer engines. While the site worked well for traditional SEO and human browsing, product information was not structured in a way that AI systems could easily extract and cite. In addition, the official website was missing a properly configured LLMs.txt file, leaving AI models without clear guidance on how to access and interpret the site’s content.
At the same time, according to the Economist, around two-thirds of consumers in developed markets now use AI tools to assist with shopping. AI-driven traffic to retail sites has grown by over 4700% year over year—and it’s not stopping anytime soon.
Lockin quickly realized that continuing to rely only on SEO and ads was simply not enough. Overseas e-commerce growth now depends on being discoverable where trust is formed—inside AI answers. If AI platforms cannot read, understand, and cite a brand, that brand effectively disappears from a growing share of the market.
Upon partnering with Frevana, Lockin made the crucial move from SEO to AEO (Answer Engine Optimization).
The Solutions
We began by setting up Lockin within Frevana’s Content Management System. This system allows brands to publish content either under their own domain or under Frevana’s domain, while managing everything in one centralized workspace. For Lockin, the effects were immediate. Rather than managing a mess of tools and approvals, they could create and publish AI-ready content from one centralized workspace. Every page followed an AI-readable structure. As a result, content went live faster and was optimized for AI accessibility from day one.
Next, we addressed the technical foundation through our LLMs.txt and Robots.txt Auditor Agent. We fixed Lockin’s LLMs.txt issue and resolved structural problems that blocked AI systems from properly accessing their website. Once corrected, Lockin’s official site finally became readable and usable for AI answer engines.
With the foundation in place, we moved to content strategy.
Frevana conducted Real User Question Research, collecting the exact questions people ask AI platforms about smart locks. In parallel, our User Scenario Strategist analyzed customer use cases in depth like when people consider buying a smart lock, what concerns they have, and how different life situations shape their decisions.
These insights guided the creation of new content designed to meet users at every decision point. Each piece addressed real pain points, not generic product features.
To ensure long-term trust and credibility, every publication went through Frevana’s E-E-A-T content evaluation tool, measuring Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. This step ensured that Lockin’s content met the standards AI platforms look for when choosing sources to cite.
The Results
Within one month, Lockin’s AI visibility score rose from 4.92% to 18.03%—a 266% increase in visibility, and it is still growing today.
For the first time, Lockin could see clear evidence that its products appeared in AI-generated answers related to smart lock recommendations, safety concerns, and usage scenarios. The brand moved from being largely ignored by AI answer engines to becoming a recognizable option in the discovery process.
Looking Forward
Lockin’s experience highlights a reality many global e-commerce brands now face. Strong products, polished websites, and traditional SEO are no longer enough. Visibility today depends on whether AI systems can understand, trust, and recommend your brand.
AEO is not something to set up once and forget. It is an ongoing discipline that evolves alongside user behavior and AI models. Lockin has committed to continuing its partnership with Frevana, using visibility tracking, content iteration, and competitive benchmarking to keep expanding its presence across AI platforms.
At Frevana, we help brands adapt to how discovery really works today: turning clarity into trust, and trust into growth. Lockin’s journey is proof that when brands optimize for AI answers, visibility follows.

Wow, that’s an incredible increase! It’s really interesting to see how AI is boosting brand visibility for Lockin – fantastic work!
